Tower & Spire Project

scaffolding In 2017 a regular architects' inspection found that there was significant deterioration of the Tower and Spire which would need major works.   As a result of further inspection the building was placed on the 'At Risk' Register by English Heritage.  Since then our Project Team have been working to ensure that the work would be done in a way which does justice to its beauty and Grade II listed status and which would be affordable.

To see the progress of the work over the months, take a look at the newsletters which we sent out to the community.

And if you click here you can see how to remove 170 feet of scaffolding in 28 seconds and the different prevailing weather conditions!

The refurbishment of the tower was completed in January 2020 and the last levels of scaffolding were gone by early February.

The church tower and spire are now safe and secure, and will continue to be a magnificent feature of the Surbiton skyline for many years to come. The church has a new maintenance schedule which should ensure that the stonework remains in good condition. Now for the roof......!
